Thanksgiving Ideas and Feebie!

I can't believe it's already November! Thanksgiving will be here before we know it and then my favorite month... December!

I have some ideas to share with you and a freebie too!

The first ideas come from my new Unit The Pilgrims and Wampanoag Meet the Common Core!
This unit was developed to include many of the instructional shifts of the Common Core. I wanted my students reading text at their level about Pilgrims and theWampanoag so they could answer text-basedquestions. I couldn’t find something at a first/ second grade level so Idecided to write my own and created 3 different levels of the same reader. Ialso wanted my students to be developing their own ideas about Pilgrims and theWampanoag so I included opportunities for comparisons among the two groups aswell as Pilgrims to modern children. Thirdly, I wanted my students to form an opinion from the readings and be able to state text-based reasons in their writing.

I think using the Non- Fiction Reader in the unit rather than just read alouds will help them pay close attention when reading to answer the text- based questions. The opinion writing with text based supports is going to be challenging but I'm ready to push my kiddos and I think I am going to be surprised. :)

My next Thanksgiving idea is a freebie for you! I made a quick Thanksgiving Part-Part Whole activity for download. We have been focusing on Part-Part Whole activities to prepare the students for symbolic fact families. Click here to download.

My last idea is this totally cute pilgrim made out of an animal plate! The little nose is a pasta shell hot glued on.
My son made this last year and I thought it was adorable!

Have a relaxing Sunday!
